Elemental

Elemental is a series of digital drawings and accompanying book which are predicated on an investigation into the chemical components that comprise the human body, the inhabited landscape, and the significance these elements play in a larger capacity. The process of producing the project Elements/Evidence provided an opportunity to research the chemical composition of environments before and after the disposal of commercial and household chemicals, deepening an understanding of the ecological and social implications of high chemical concentrations present throughout local and global environments. Interest in this project was initiated by the circumstances of the surrounding landscape of Urbana, Illinois. Like that of most of the Midwest, it operates as a landscape of large-scale commercial farming. As such, its topography is much like a sponge, a repository of fertilizers and pesticides-solutions derived of elements originating in the earth’s crust that have been extracted, processed and then expended.
